June 28th

Hello,
I got back from Germany yesterday and despite all of the stories of how miserable Kiel can be to sail at, we
had great weather all but one morning when it rained.  Who would have thought that I would come home
from Germany with a tan.  We sailed for five days, three days of qualifiers and two days of finals.  During the
qualifying races the fleet was split into two groups.  The first day had great breeze.  I struggled the first three
races to get my head in the game.  I had awesome starts, but not so great tactics.  By the final race the first
day I figured out what I was doing and was in 4th the whole race until I hit the windward mark and lost 10
boats.  The next day was lighter and was much better for me.  I finished the two races with a 4 and a 3.  I
was in 16th after the second day.  The next day, after sitting around for a long time we finally went out and
did one race in very light breeze.  All of the other courses around us went back in because of lack of breeze,
but our RC thought we could race.  We sailed the race and I went the wrong way what seemed like every
beat and had a very bad race.  I was laying 20th after that race, but made the gold fleet for the regatta.  The
next two days were finals, where the fleets were split into gold and silver.  The gold fleet was very tough,
filled with very good sailors.  We did four more races over the next two days in light air.  I finished 22nd
overall out of 74 boats.  Its not bad for my first international regatta, but makes me want to win a lot more.  I
learned a lot and progressively got better throughout the regatta as I remembered how to sail a Radial
again.  I have a month to put in a lot of practice time before the European Championships and the
University World Games and I plan to do just that!!!

Sail hard,
Anna

Hi Y'all as they say in Texas.  Well the team arrived home yesterday after two very successful events.  We
finished 4th at the Women's Championship and 6th at the Co-ed  Championship.  In my divisions, my crew
(Emily Bartlett) and I finished 1st in A division at Women's and we (along with Mike Smith) finished 6th in A
division at Co-eds.  I received All-American Status for both Women's and Co-ed Teams.  I won the
Quantum Sails College sailor of the year and was 1 of 3 finalist for the Sportsmanship Trophy.
